Musk Ox are often perceived as gentle giants. People think they are like big docile cows of the plains--but they are quite deadly. A man living in Nome Alaska was attacked and killed by a musk ox while defending his dog kennel.
It is thought that musk ox are naturally defensive of dogs because wolves are a natural predator of theirs. When a musk ox feels threatened it will charge and use its horns to attack.
Curtis Worland, an Alaska Court Services Officer State for the Nome area for the last 13 years was declared dead at the scene. The attack took place outside of his home near his sled dog kennel. Attempts have been made to locate the musk ox that attacked Worland to assess its threat to people in the nearby community.
